GÄRWERT – Environmentally friendly optimization, value oriented recycling and commercialization of biogas digestate

Content

The first aim of the project is to evaluate different fermentation residue processing technologies under technical, ecological and economic aspects. Based on these results, the project team will describe and develop different paths of utilization depending on input materials, types of biogas plants, and regional environment. For that purpose, empirical market research is carried out and energy consumption data and cost data are raised. Besides, different products from fermentation residue processing plants are evaluated concerning product quality (nutrient loading, availability of nutrients, fertilizer effect, plant compatibility, stability in storage etc.) and environmental effect (GHG emissions from the production up to the use).

The second aim is to create a basis for a successful marketing of fermentation residue products by the biogas plant operators. For that purpose, buyers’ preferences are determined, marketing instruments are compiled and alternatives for institutional arrangements (single marketing, cooperative solutions, franchise system etc.) are checked.
