International comparison of Biomethane products and policy frameworks
Content
The biomethane market is -concurrent to the green electricity market (see our project on "International comparison of green electricity products")- undergoing constant changes: Until now, the conversion into electricity, subsidized through the Renewable Energies Act (EEG), has been the most important route to market in Germany. However, due to extensive changes to the EEG other sales channels are increasingly coming into focus: e.g. utilization of biomethane as fuel or the heating market. These areas are also subject to strong regulation. The marketing of biomethane to end consumers and the corresponding policy frameworks have hardly been researched to date. For this reason, we compare the websites of more than 360 green gas tariffs from Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. At the same time, we analyses the corresponding policy frameworks. The results are now available and will be published soon.
