Content:

The module equips students with the ability to understand, analyze, and manage cultural differences in international business contexts. It develops key competencies for working effectively across cultures and enables students to critically reflect on cultural influences on management practices, communication, and decision-making.

A particular emphasis is placed on theory-based cultural analysis and its practical application. Students examine established cultural frameworks, assess their strengths and limitations, and learn how cultural diversity affects collaboration, leadership, and organizational success in international environments.

  • Basics: Definitions of culture, levels of culture, and relevance for management
  • Culture and Management: Cultural influences on organizations and managerial behavior
  • Cultural Dimensions:
    • Hofstede’s cultural dimensions
    • The GLOBE study and leadership implications
    • Hall’s concepts of context and time orientation
  • Comparison and critical evaluation of cultural models
  • Intercultural Communication: Perception, communication styles, and misunderstandings
  • Cultural Influences on Leadership, Teamwork, and Decision-Making
  • Managing Cultural Diversity in International Organizations
  • Reflection on cultural stereotypes and managerial implications

The module builds on prior knowledge in business administration and prepares students for professional roles in international and multicultural working environments.
