Content:

This course addresses contemporary challenges in urban and open space design. Students learn to define planning objectives and assess key criteria such as functional and design quality, ecological performance, and material sustainability across the full life cycle. Themes include climate relevance, resource management, biodiversity, and the social and psychological quality of urban environments.

Through interaction with professionals, academic institutions, and public authorities, students gain insight into current standards, guidelines, and the interdisciplinary nature of planning practice. They develop the ability to formulate and justify design strategies using sound theoretical and methodological reasoning, while engaging in critical dialogue with experts and non-specialists alike.

Students cultivate an independent, environmentally responsible design approach that integrates ecological, economic, and social perspectives and acknowledges diverse stakeholder interests.
