Application and Payment of Rent
Once we have received your nomination from your university you will receive information on how to apply online for a room in the residence hall.
The application process can be started from April 1st or October 1st for a room in the following semester.
Please note that a room in the residence halls can only be rented for the whole semester (March 1st - August 31st respective September 1st - February 28th) and that you cannot move in at weekends and on public holidays.
For the payment of the rent, students have to sign a document (Einzugsermaechtigung) which authorizes the Studentenwerk - the organisation responsible for the management of the residence halls - to withdraw the rent from your bank account. You will open a German bank account during the orientation week.
Rent is due during the first week of every month.
The first rent (March respectively September) and the deposit will have to be paid into your bank account in Nuertingen (cash) during the orientation days and then be transferred to the account of the Studentenwerk. Alternatively, you can transfer the deposit for the room in the residence hall amounting to 600€ and the first rent for September/March amounting to approx. 243€ to the account of the Studierendenwerk in advance, once you have signed the rental contract. But, your bank might charge you an extra fee for the international money transfer service. For more information, please contact Andrea Heissler. The deposit will be fully refunded if you leave the room in good condition. This process can take up to 3 months after the end of the lease.
Private Accommodation
Looking for accommodation on the spot
The accommodation situation for students is generally difficult, as cheap and furnished accommodation is hard to find. If you prefer private accommodation, please refer to websites such as: http://www.immonet.de/ https://www.immowelt.de/ https://www.immobilienscout24.de/ http://www.wg-gesucht.de/
It is also worth buying local newspapers on Wednesdays and Saturdays and reading the advertisements for accommodation. It may also be helpful to place your own request in a newspaper instead of just responding to advertisements.
