Content:

Upon successful completion of this module, students are able to independently research and analyze current urban planning issues in terms of challenges, problems, and overarching themes. This includes topics such as compact urban development, climate mitigation and adaptation measures in urban planning, and both formal and informal urban planning instruments within this context.

Students use self-selected, context- and site-specific methods to investigate the current state of practice and research on relevant topics, coordinated with the instructors. Based on their research, they define their own research questions, select and apply appropriate methods to address them, and prepare the results in a seminar paper and professional presentation.

Students also lead specialist discussions based on their presentations and defend their results. The module addresses economic, ecological, and social aspects of sustainability with spatial relevance in both national and international contexts.
