Content:

Upon successful completion of this module, students are able to:

  • Identify, assess, and resolve current special issues in planning law, for example arising from societal developments or legislative reforms;

  • Apply and deepen their knowledge of urban planning law instruments, including urban development contracts and special urban planning regulations;

  • Understand and work on planning law issues in English.

Students analyze one or more provided case studies to address specific planning law questions, research relevant legal foundations, and develop solutions. Based on this, they evaluate the feasibility of urban planning measures in the cases studied.

They engage with statutory texts, commentary literature, current professional journals, and planning documents. Parts of the course are conducted in English.

Assessment covers all economic, ecological, social, private, and public aspects of urban land use and reuse, as well as its protection, in accordance with §1 BauGB (Federal Building Code).

Key legal texts: Federal Building Code, Baden-Württemberg State Building Regulations, and selected excerpts from the Administrative Procedure Act and Administrative Court Rules (if provided)
